Book of James: 2 Kinds of Wisdom

  • God's Word: James 3: 13 - 18
  • Song of Worship: Freedom We know

Read the Passage

Sometimes, in our lives we want to be ahead of others, to better than other people. Sometimes, especially in work ans school, we do everything just to get ahead of others. Earthly wisdom as James said. According to him, there are two kinds of wisdom, one is earthly and the other is heavenly. Earthly wisdom is from our selfishness and envy. And most of the time this lead to disorder and evil practice. While heavenly wisdom is pure, considerate, peace-loving, full of mercy, and sincere.

As a college student, I've seen the evil practice of wisdom. Students love to compete for grades. And just so to get ahead of the competition, students would do everything they could. Some would cheat on exams. Some would ask for some leakage about the exam. Not just in school, in the businss world, in politics. It is a sad thing that God gave us intelligence and we are using it for evil practices. Such a sad thing that we are using our intelligence for our selfish ambitions.

If we lack wisdom, all we have to do is ask God. When ever we are in trials or in temptation, we just have to pray to God for wisdom. He is faithful, he will surely provide us with the wisdom that we ask him.

A Great Experience

  • Song of Worship: Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns
  • Related Reading: Good Morning!!

Hi I want to share to you guys God's Blessing in my life lately. Well, I had my thesis defense last Saturday. My thesis mates and I have really prepared for it. I have prepared for it not just mentally but also spiritually. I have been praying for it. Ask Christian friends to pray for me. My thesis mates spent Thursday and Friday night at my place. I used this chance to invite them to the Youth Worship. Thursday, I asked our youth pastors to pray for us for the defense.

We've spent hours on our thesis. Starting Wednesday 7am up to Saturday 9am, I only slept for 11 hours. So, I went to school last Saturday feeling really tired. The defense was schedule to start at 9am. Every group was allotted 15 minutes in the room for presentation and questioning. We were the seventh group to defend our thesis. We were waiting outside the room. The first group went in. You know what; they spent almost 45 minutes in the room. Then the next group... again they spent a lot of time inside. Because it was taking so much time, I grew quite nervous, so I prayed silently to god for guidance.

It was 12pm and the group that was inside the room was only the fifth group. The panelist took a break and went back at 12:30pm. All the while I was praying to God. When the group before us went inside the room, one of my thesis mates came to me and said "Ate, can you pray for us?" So the group gathered, and we prayed for God's guidance and favor.

It was our time to defend. We have four panelists. We presented our PowerPoint. And it was time for questioning. The funny thing was they only gave us two questions. And we were able to answer it well. And we're done. One panelist said, "Nice thesis, Congratulations!"  And we only spent about 20 minutes inside. God was indeed with us during our thesis. He was guiding us through it. He gave us the strength and wisdom.

And the best thing about our thesis was that I was able to invite my thesis mates to the Youth Worship. You know what, one of them wanted to join me again to attend Youth Worship. God indeed uses our experiences for His glory!
